Delay and dilly-dally. Prevaricate. Allow the enterprise to drift. Ensure that no one- the passengers, the crew or even the management- knows how long the rudderless ship caught in the maelstrom on the high seas will sail. Sooner than later, it will founder on the rocks and sink. Or, get caught in a gale and capsize. Indecision is in itself grief.

There's news that the government has postponed the sale of Air India. It has taken everyone by surprise. The announcement could have been along these lines: "Taking into account the blank response to the invitation from the government soliciting expression of interest for
from prospective suitors, and after evaluating feedback from various quarters, the government has taken a decision to come up with a fresh bid before September 30 to attract quality bidders. The government is committed to complete the sale before December 31, 2018." When the message is unambiguous, purposive and with definite timelines, it will give a sense of direction to the task at hand. There must be a line of sight to everyone on the intent of the government which inspires confidence and optimism.
